Chase Farm Hospital (CFH) has been named by NHS England as one of eight new elective surgical hubs, delivering high standards in clinical care.
The scheme assesses hospitals against a set of standards, such as staff training and clinical outcomes, for some of the most common surgical procedures including cataract surgeries and hip replacements.
The hubs, including CFH, deliver planned surgery with a focus on low complexity procedures across six specialties – ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ear nose and throat and urology.
The skills and expertise of staff are brought together under one roof and because no emergency surgery is delivered at CFH, it means all its surgical beds can be reserved for those requiring a planned procedure, reducing the risk of short-notice cancellations.
The hubs are part of plans nationally to increase capacity for elective care with more dedicated operating theatres and beds and CFH is now one of 16 hubs nationwide to have been accredited.
The scheme is part of NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GRIFT) programme in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

“We’ve always known that we deliver outstanding care here at CFH – including developing new models of care so that patients have shorter stays in hospital and in some cases can be safely discharged the same day as their procedures – but it’s wonderful to have this confirmed by NHS England.”
